The main direct beneficiaries are the children we work with each year.

We also plan to directly benefit their parents or caregivers and as a result the entire household which includes children, aunts, uncles, and grand-parents. That household in turn influences the community at large.

Additional beneficiaries are teachers who as a result of the development program would be equipped to create a better classroom and school environment for the learners in all the classes. The entire school and all the learners would therefore benefit from this intervention.

The benefit is long term. iThemba Lethu Hillside has not positioned itself as an organization on which the community will become reliant and dependent. The program develops people, and helps to ensure that there are mechanisms in place to sustain positive behavioral change.

Number of learners 2008 2009 2010 2011
Learners attending iThemba Lethu Hillside sessions (direct beneficiaries) 165 315 350 441

There are approximately 150 learners per grade at Botha’s Hill Primary School. This means that the program potentially expands its impact by 150 children per annum. Constraints include additional youth workers, their salaries and program costs.
